The Legal advises the Agency on institutional and governance matters, ensures compliance with EU law, coordinates data protection, ethics and whistleblowing, and manages requests for public access to documents. It also maintains the internal legal library.

The Data Protection Hub gathers all resources on personal data processing at the Agency: register of processing activities, privacy notices, data subject request forms and DPO guidance.

The Agency's ethics framework covers conflicts of interest, gifts and hospitality, outside activities and post-employment obligations. Staff members must comply with the Staff Regulations and the Agency's Code of Conduct.
Under Regulation (EC) No 1049/2001, any citizen may request access to documents held by the Agency. Requests are handled by the Legal within 15 working days.

Information requests addressed to the Agency by EU institutions, national competent authorities, journalists or citizens are registered and coordinated by the Legal.
Requests are acknowledged within 5 working days and answered within 15 working days. To submit or follow up on a request, write to legal@agency.europa.eu indicating the reference number where available.
